When is a clock not just a clock? When it provides so much more than just the time: temperature, time accuracy within one second per year, and a weather forecast, for example. This handsome wall clock, with its dual LCD screens and black-accented cherry finish, is an example of household life being enhanced by science. The WS-8157U-CH can hang on the wall or stand freely, with a built-in, fold-out stand. Radio-controlled time (to the hour, minute, and second) and date are prominently displayed, along with indoor and outdoor temperatures measured in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. The day of the week can be displayed in English, French, Spanish or German. Time can be displayed in 12- or 24-hour modes, and time zones from Greenwich Mean Time to -12 GMT can be selected, with three-letter identifications for US time zones. An alarm feature is useful as a timer, and, if the clock happens to hang or stand near a bed (or a couch that's used for napping), a snooze feature allows for gradual wake-up. The weather forecast, estimated to be 75% accurate, is based on change in air pressure over time. Three icons--a sun, a sun with clouds, or two rain clouds--indicate imminent changes in the weather. And there are two weather tendency arrows as well, indicating changes in air pressure. The clock comes with La Crosse transmitter TX37U-TI. Clock and transmitter each operate on two AA batteries. Just received the La Crosse Technology WS-8157U-CH-IT Atomic Clock with Outdoor Temperature and Weather Forecast. Setup was simple, finding a place to mount the external temperature sensor was not as simple.
I placed the batteries in the sensor, then in the clock. Within a minute or two the display showed the internal and external temperatures. They happened to be the same since the outdoor sensor was still inside the house. I figured I would let everything settle before moving the sensor outside.
I waited for the clock to set itself, but after a couple of hours it had not found the 60 kHz signal. So, I manually set the clock and figured I would wait for it to try overnight. That was when the instructions said was the best time for the clock to find the signal.
There was a spot on the west side of my kitchen where I wanted the clock, so I drilled the two holes and put the clock on the wall. I found a spot on the North side of my house for the outdoor sensor, and mounted it. Now it was a matter of letting everything settle. I was still wondering if the clock would set itself.
Went to bed and thought, I hope everything works. The morning came and sure enough, the clock set itself and the weather station was indicating pressure was on the rise and improving weather.
After 12 hours, all is well.

On the wall above my monitor. Sending unit outside on balcony, I always know temps inside and out, these things last years and batteries last a long time too. Easy to use, some of the cheapo Chinese imports have no documentation, hard to figure out when setting.

If you just want to see the time. This stuff is ok. It looks ok in appearance.
If you count on it for temperature or weather forecast, don't be silly. This item can't even tell the correct temperature of my house. Usually it was 3 degrees different. Let alone the outside.

I love the aesthetics and the accuracy is great. I particularly like the barometer function that lets me know graphically what is in store weather wise. By that I mean whether the weather is going to get better or worse. Of course I bought it because of the atomic clock feature which works just fine at my home and at the home of the person I gifted one to.

I have for about 7 months now and it is working pretty great. Didn't have to change the battery for the clock on the receiver for the weather/temperature check. No issues with readability or angle of view (Don't hang it very high on the wall (hanging 8ft from the ground).
It measures 8x12 and might look a bit smaller on large walls. I would have preferred it to be a bit bigger.
